Doug joined the VNA in June 2007. His career in finance in a healthcare setting began in 1994 when he went to work at a Granada Nursing Home in Baltimore City where he reported directly to the owners and was responsible for the financial activities of the facility. A few years later he took a finance position with Healthcare & Retirement Corporation. Healthcare & Retirement Corporation merged with ManorCare and Doug was promoted to a regional corporate position where he was responsible for overseeing the business offices of ManorCare’s nursing facilities in Baltimore and Delaware.
Doug grew up just outside Uniontown Maryland, a small civil war town in northern Carroll County. During high school, Doug attended Westminster Vo-Tech and studied computer programming. After graduating from High School, Doug attended Essex Community College in Baltimore County but later transferred to UMBC majoring in computer science.
Doug grew up riding horses, was a member of the Carroll County 4H club, and competed in local horse shows. In 2001 he purchased a farm outside Littlestown where he bred, raised, and trained Hanoverians a German breed used primarily for dressage.
Doug has a strong interest in science and new technologies. One of his most recent projects was to build an off-grid solar system large enough to power most of the appliances in his home. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, hiking at state parks with his dogs, doing home renovation projects, and tinkering on his farm.
