The VNA Bereavement Program is a complementary resource serving the needs of our patients, families, and the community. Our trained staff and volunteers provide compassionate, supportive care to those who have experienced a loss and are on their journey through grief. Grief is a normal, natural, and necessary response to life’s losses and changes, which everyone experiences.
Our bereavement program includes:
- Bereavement Mailings
- Supportive Phone Calls and Visits
- Support Groups
- Community Resource Referrals
- Butterfly Release Program
- Memorial Service
- Community Education
Volunteer Support for our Bereavement Services
We can provide these bereavement services because of the generous support of our community, which includes bereavement volunteers. Bereavement volunteers provide companionship, support, and assistance to persons who have experienced the death of a loved one. They also assist with administrative support and programs.

Community Support Groups
GriefShare
A GriefShare support group is a safe, welcoming place where people understand the difficult emotions of grief. Through this 13-week group, you’ll discover what to expect in the days ahead and what’s “normal” in grief. Since there are no neat, orderly stages of grief, you’ll learn helpful ways of coping with grief—in all its unpredictability—and gain solid support each step of the way.
